*I do not think it is the fees. It is fraud/money laundering prevention (on the card not the product.) it is harder to do if there is a fee assessed directly to the customer. Now multiply the fraud by several thousand to a million and the costs add up. Nevertheless, I do agree that large payment processors' fee structure you describe does make it more difficult for smaller business to compete with larger ones on scale.
