dear democrats: do not frame it as vigilantism. Frame it as lack of complete settlement. Small town America's largest (publicly accessible) building (most of the time) is a church, not the town hall.
Government and religion merge at a personal level; and low population density areas, this becomes more of a fact due to the church being more accessible than the paperwork of government (large or small) that that of what government could ever provide.
